Wellness tourism grows well

A new study reveal that wellness tourism has spread especially in Europe where five countries are on a list of ten destinations worldwide that get more and more money from that pleasant modality.

In terms of wellness gains in a list of 10 nations Germany ranks second, with the United States leading, follow by France in fourth place, Austria in sixth, Great Britain in ninth and Italy in tenth closing the exclusive list.

Among those privileged by Wellness Tourism in other regions are China in third place, Japan in fifth place and Canada in eighth place, according to the report released by the Global Wellness Institute and presented at the World Travel Market London this month.

The statistics leave no doubt that there is currently an expansion of wellness tourism worldwide that grew nearly seven percent annually between 2015 and 2017 to USD $639 billion more than twice as fast as tourism overall.

Experts estimates that while Europe may be the most popular destination for wellness travel, with 292 million trips in 2017, North America earning the most in tourism revenue at $242 billion annually.

Slow down and relax

Among the European wellness destinations the offers from Germany are very attractive. “If you are looking for a break from everyday life to replenish your strength, slow down and relax, Germany is a dream destination” promises an Internet promotion.

Whether by the sea, in the mountains or surrounded by green meadows and forests – spa towns and resorts Germany invite you to savour an amazing relaxation and well-being experience,

Certainly throughout Germany, health resorts and spas use the power of water to alleviate complaints. The natural springs from which the therapeutic waters well up form the basis for a network of health-related facilities in these resort towns.

The France wellness magic was the growing popularization of spas in 2013. Whilst it was an essential investment for all luxury hotels operating an increasing number of 4- and even 3-star hotels began offering spas as a key component of their products and services. Experts even observed the strong development of spas at campsites and guesthouses during the last couple of years of the review period.

In 2016 Italy launched a project timed to boosting Italian wellness tourism under the title Terme d’Italia.

Travel for improving health

The project involved the regions of Calabria, Emilia-Romagna, Lazio, Lombardy, Puglia, Sicily, Veneto and the Autonomous Province of Bolzano. It was dedicated to Italy’s domestic spa and wellness resorts and the aim is to support and stimulate the demand for local spa and wellness services.

In all the European countries in the list of high wellness income gastronomic tourism and ecotourism are similar in size to wellness tourism.

Regarding U.S is the largest national wellness tourism market by far, but China is making huge gains.

Wellness tourism is defined as travel for the purpose of maintaining or improving health — and should not be confused with medical tourism, which involves travel to seek a specific medical treatment.

Between 2017 and 2022, wellness tourism is also projected to grow 13 percent in Asia-Pacific to reach $252 billion in revenue. Meanwhile, within the region, China and India are the strongest performers, having added roughly 22 million and 17 million wellness trips respectively from 2015-2017.
